Love those Lady Raiders and their fascination with WOW! Hope you will be catching some of their action too.
The girl in the socail d shirt is my favoirte. *cough*make a toon on my relm *cough* I really dont know why shes out of the kitchen =p lol woo bad humor. And i do have to say after having 40 days played on a troll hunter making a female B elf is a plesnt change. who wants to look at a trolls ass for 12 hours at a time?
Seen this when it came out. Fist thought: “they break the stereo type”.
Nice to see and know.
It’s hard being a girl out there that plays games. This speaks the truth about what it’s like. We do have to develop a hard skin about everything, as, sadly, boys will be boys. We have to sit and take the pug that likes to sit and joke about female body parts the entire instance. Or Hear the idiotic replies once people find out that you are actually a girl cuz no women exist on the internet…which I get tired of hearing. What is this 1947? Anyways, great documentary, I almost wish it was played at Blizzcon. Keep up the good work!
Yes! Female? Check. Tank? Check. Guild leader? Check. Breaking stereotypes and killing Internet dragons one raid at a time? You bet. It’s frustrating sometimes being a girl in a PuG raid and having to work harder to earn respect that seems to just be given to guys, but at the same time, knowing that you’re sort of a minority in a lot of ways (female, tank, guild lead) is empowering because you can just disprove those ridiculous misconceptions and laugh.
Having tanked through Burning Crusade, I took a break to play ret through Wrath. But I am excited to grab the old sword n’ board come Cataclysm.
I think these little snippets go a long way toward touching on a pretty common across-the-board concept within the greater female online gaming community as a whole: that women actually play this stupid game, that we’re all real people from all walks of life, & that we’re just as crazy about raiding as our male counterparts. I wouldn’t nescesarily say it’s difficult to be a female gamer from my own experiences, but I’m also not saying that being a female gamer in a boy’s club environment isn’t without its pitfalls.
I’m the guild leader of group of achievement oriented endgame raiders & pvp enthusiasts. We’re just shy of 4 years together, & currently slacking till cata after our 25m LK kill earlier this summer. While I’ll be the last to get all ‘boohoo/woe is me’ about how idiotic people can be, I definitely -DO- admit to sometimes feeling more pressure to perform at a level where I am on par with/exceeding my male counterparts while raiding, just to be taken seriously. Fortunately my guys know I can both pull my weight AND have no problem laying the smack down, and it can be pretty empowering to know that simply by playing to the best of my ability, I’m shattering people’s ridiculous stereotypes.
There is some good raiding females out there. Probably more than we know because I am sure a large number of them would never admit it because they fear the wrath of the male raider. The problem is there is so many bad female wowers that the good ones have trouble making a good name for themselves. For every 1 good female player I have encountered, there is at least 5 terribad ones.
